Folding the Perfect Fitted Sheet

Today we are going to talk about sheets. When it comes to laundry, I do not mind folding the clothes for the most part. But folding large items like blankets and sheets, that is my least favorite. In fact, if you want to deter me from folding a basket of laundry, keep a large item like a sheet or blanket on top. : )

They are big and bulky, making it difficult to get a neat fold from them. If I am going to put in the effort to fold those things, they should come out looking nice, real nice. I like to open my closets and see a neatness, an organized appearance. I don’t want to open my closet and have a pile of blankets fall on me. Especially after I had taken the time to fold each and every one of those blankets. Argh!

How about sheets? The flat sheet is pretty easy to fold neatly into a square. But what about the fitted sheet? For years I struggled getting that sheet to lay flat and not look like a lumpy mess. Or I would get it flat and somewhat smooth but it was way too big in size compared to how I folded my flat sheet. Then they would sit awkwardly in my closet. Sometimes I wish there was someone to tell me some practical tips for these little things in life. Sure they are not the major important things but they still mattered to me.

So I finally figured out a way to fold the fitted sheet so that it lays flat, looks smooth and is very close in size with the flat sheet.

The first step is to put all the corners of the fitted sheet together and lay out on a large flat surface. usually that is my bed. In the pictures, it is my floor. I had a hard time taking the pictures on my bed.

The first step is the most critical. When you lay it down on the flat surface, take the time to straighten it out and get it laying as flat and smooth as possible.

Once you are satisfied with the overall look then fold in thirds. I started with the thick side first.

After that you would fold in thirds again.

And there you go. A nice, neat square fitted sheet that fits nicely with your flat sheet.

The flat sheet was folded in quarters while the fitted is folded in thirds.

Hope this helps some people. Comment below with any questions.
